Paul Kagame, (born October 23, 1957 in Gitaram) - Rwandan politician from the Tutsi tribe, president of Rwanda from April 22, 2000, founder and leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front. Vice-president and defense minister in the years 1994-2000. On April 17, 2000, Kagame was elected president by the National Assembly after removing Pasteur Bizimungi from this position. The reason for removing him from power was Bizimungi's conflict with Kagame. On April 22, 2000 he was solemnly sworn in office.
