born December 26, 1893, died September 9, 1976 Chinese politician, leader of the country in 1949-1976, from 1943 head of the political office and chairman of the Political Committee of the Communist Party of China (until his death) and the ideologist of Maoism.

Together with Zhu De, he founded the People's Liberation Army (August 1, 1927) after Chiang Kai-shek began a series of purges against communists. On October 1, 1949, at Tian'anmen Square, Mao declared the creation of the People's Republic of China. After gaining power, Mao initiated the rebuilding of China's economic and social system through the process of collectivization. Since the 1950s, a number of political and economic campaigns have been carried out, including a campaign against rightists, a big leap forward, a cultural revolution - unsuccessful economic experiments led to the deaths of tens of millions of people. He also contributed to the split in the Eastern bloc and exacerbation of relations with the USSR. At the end of his life, he led to a warming of relations with the United States.

He is considered by many historians to be the greatest criminal in the history of mankind, he is credited with the deaths of 65  - 70 million people only in peacetime
